Dylan Sobey (“Mr. Sobes”) is an Old Testament scholar and music aficionado. His 2nd favorite part about teaching is when his students gain a deeper love for God through studying Scripture. His favorite part about teaching is seeing when they live out God’s character in their own lives. He can typically be found studying, playing guitar, or watching sports.

Fun Fact: I lived in Germany for six years because my parents were missionaries there. I write my own music and perform whenever I get the chance.

My older brother and sister-in-law are both lawyers. They are raising my adorable niece! It’s a joy to see them often!

"Mr. Sobes" has been an instructor at SMCA since the 2017-18 school year. He jokes that he works in the “Department of Everything,” and has taught several courses in every subject except mathematics and physical education. When he is not teaching, Mr. Sobes may be found writing his thesis on the book of Lamentations, playing guitar, or cheering on the Portland Trail Blazers and Denver Broncos.

I have worked with children for the past 9 years, but this will be my first year at Spring Mountain Christian Academy. About a year ago, I spent a month teaching English in Morelia, Mexico through NOE International and hope to go back again someday for several months. I am currently working on my bachelor's in elementary education!

 

In my free time, I enjoy doing Crossfit/playing sports, backpacking in the Wallowa Mountains, finding new coffee shops with friends or attempting new songs on the ukelele!

A little glimpse into my life:

 

My parents immigrated from South Korea but I was born and raised here in Oregon. While Beaverton is my current place of stay, I am absolutely loving the Happy Valley area.

 

Jesus = My Number One; I have the best of both Korean & American Worlds; taught K-5 Music to 700 elementary students via the Beaverton School District; was able to briefly teach at the high school I went to; I love my family & friends who have become family; INFJ personality type; Enneagram Type 6, Wing 7 (The Loyalist)

 

Fun Fact: Ms. Lee (4th Grade Teacher) and I were in the same 9th Grade Geometry class. We connected again after college and have grown closer to Christ together since then!
